Mrs. Medrith Montine (Laster) Barnes, 93, of Newark died Friday at Batesville. She was born September 14, 1921 in Hulsey Bend Community, Oil Trough the daughter of George Reather and Nancy Levine (Riddle) Laster.

She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-nine years, Robert David Barnes, Sr.; one son, Scottie Laster; her parents; one brother, James “Bo” Laster and two sisters, Irene Gillum and Katherine Adair.

Mrs. Barnes was a homemaker and a member of the Magness Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Mrs. Barnes could be packed at a moments notice for a trip.

She is survived by three sons, Johnny Batson and wife Shirley of Newark, Finis Barnes and wife Arrita of Newark and David Barnes, Jr. and wife Barbara of Charlotte; one daughter, Donna Pectol and husband Ernie of Magness; one sister, Wanda Kuchler of Newark; ten grandchildren; thirty-four great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Newark Church of Christ with Mr. Danny Blevins officiating. Interment will be in Macedonia Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Duane Pearson, Larry Magness, Billy Davis, David McIntosh, Jackie Magness and Charles Magness. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

The Barnes family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. David Boike, Dr. Homer Brooks and the staff at White River Medical Center’s Heart Unit for their loving care.
