BETTENDORF — Barbara Keepers Lardner, 83, of Bettendorf, formerly of Davenport, died on Saturday, December 3, 2011, at Genesis Medical Center-West Central Park, Davenport.
Interment in Oakdale Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Lardner was born in 1928 in Champaign, Illinois, to Lucy Lee and W. Lloyd Keepers. She graduated from Rock Island High School. She attended Vassar College and the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, where she was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority. Barbara married James F. Lardner on September 17, 1949, at Christ Church in Rock Island. Due to Jim's career at John Deere, Barbara and her husband moved to Mexico in 1956, Brazil in 1959, and then Spain in 1960. They returned to Davenport in 1968. She was a member of the Tri-City Garden Club, The Tuesday Club, Trinity Episcopal Cathedral Altar Guild, The Outing Club, and the Rock Island Arsenal. Barbara loved the arts, particularly the fine arts. She volunteered at the then Davenport Art Gallery. She enjoyed needlepointing, often designs she created. Her homes were a reflection of her innate sense of style, filled with arrangements from her greenhouse and gardens. She loved to travel. She and her husband relished their time abroad and their frequent travels.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Jim, daughters, Lucy (Jay) Romans, Katy (Kerry) Kearney, and Amy Lardner, and her grandchildren, Annie Kearney and Jim Kearney.
