He was born in Johnson City, Tenn., on May 28, 1904 and moved to Kingsport at the age of 10. Mr. Lane retired from the Kingsport Press after 42 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Lena Lane; wife, Maude Lane; one son, Dewey Lane; one daughter, Betty Cox; three daughters-in-law; four sisters; three brothers; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Surviving are two daughters, Jean Roberts and husband, Billy and Sheila Mitchell; five sons, Don Lane, C.J. Lane Jr. and wife, Bonnie, Wesley Lane and wife, Ruth, Paul Lane, Jimmy Lane and wife, Jean, all of Kingsport; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dot Archer, Kingsport and Ruth Wallen, Spartanburg, S.C.; one brother, Delbert Lane, Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at East Lawn Memorial Park.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be James Leach and Frank Mullins.
Memorials may be given to Vermont United Methodist Church building fund, 1817 Bloomingdale Road, Kingsport, Tenn. 37660.
