A celebration of life will be held Nov. 20 for Belva Gene Bogen of Richland, who died Nov. 9 of kidney failure. She was 78.
Bogen was born March 25, 1927, in Drain to Eugene and Bessie White Lakey. She married John Bogen on June 17, 1945, in Decatur, Ill.
She and her husband had lived in many different places in connection with their missionary work. During their service in Europe, she helped deliver Bibles to people behind the Iron Curtain. She also had lived in Idaho, Washington and Alaska. The couple served as house parents at the Christian Children's Home for four years, during which she attended Boise Bible College and accumulated a year's worth of credits.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, camping, hunting, writing and teaching women life enrichment. She was a pianist and enjoyed singing.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Sherry Curtis of Phoenix, Ariz.; three sons, Larry of Beaverton, Michael of Sheridan and Steven of Willamina; a brother, David Lakey of Brookings; and 12 grand- children.
Sunday's service will be at 1 p.m. at the Drain Church of Christ. Tami's Pine Valley Funeral Home in Halfway is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to any church.
