Margaret Jean (Lagasse) Manz, 84, passed away Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka. She was born Aug. 13, 1928, at the family farm near Rice, the daughter of Ernest Simeon and Isabel Agnes (Wegert) Lagasse.
Growing up in the Concordia area, she attended local schools, graduated from Concordia High School with the class of 1947, and she attended Kansas State University, graduating May 27, 1951. That same day, she was married to the Rev. Norman E. Manz. She had taught in the public schools in Valders, Wis., and Talmage and Hope, Kan. They also had lived in Hoisington and Cheney, before moving to Abilene in 1964. He preceded her in death on July 17, 1990.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Lyle E. Lagasse. She was a member of Grace United Church of Christ and the Retired Teachers Association. She is survived by a daughter, Kari Garcia, of Los Alamos, N.M.; two sons, Kevin Manz, of Sacramento, Calif., and Kim Manz, of Lawrence; and one grandson.
The family will receive friends from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, at Danner Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, at Grace United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Phylis Garrett and the Rev., Kent Cormack officiating. Interment will follow in St. John's Alida Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial contributions in her name be given to the Grace United Church of Christ or the Cloud County Historical Museum. They may be left at the church the day of the service or left at or sent in care of Danner Funeral Home, P.O. Box 758, Abilene 67410.
