She was born in Auburn, Maine on July 18, 1931, the daughter of the late Adolphe and Lucille (Jacques) Lafontaine and had been a resident of this community for most of her life.
She was educated in Lewiston schools and was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Class of 1950.
She married Robert L. Breton, Sr. in August of 1955, and he died on July 26, 2006.
She was employed at Knapp Shoe for many years and then was employed as a food server at Central Maine Medical Center until her retirement in 1994.
Muriel was an avid bowler, Elvis Presley and Red Sox fan. She was the one responsible to have the name of her street changed to Nomar Court in honor of Nomar Garciaparra.
She was a parishioner of the former St. Joseph's Church in Lewiston.
She is survived by three sons, Robert Breton, Jr., Marc Breton and Paul Breton, all of Lewiston; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband and her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Donald Lafonaine.

Breton-died in Lewiston on Wednesday, December 30, 2015, Mrs. Muriel E., age 84, a resident of Lewiston. A Funeral Mass honoring Muriel's memory will be celebrated on Monday at 11am at the Basilica of Sts. Peter & Paul Church (Lower Chapel). Committal services will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Pinette Dillingham & Lynch Funeral Home, 305 Alfred A. Plourde Parkway, Lewiston 784-4023.
