Mrs Yolande L. Ball, "Yolie" to all her family and friends, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her three children on November 9th.

Yolie was the daughter of Germaine (Cote`) Laplante of Ottawa, Ontario Canada. She was the loving wife of Donald R. Ball of Needham, Massachusetts and currently Knoxville, Tennessee. Yolie was the loving mother to son, Stephen R. Ball and wife Kimberly of Colonial Heights, Virginia, daughter, Louise M. Ball and husband Thomas Pontiff of Knoxville, Tennessee, and daughter, Sandra Ball of Dover, Massachusetts. She was also a loving grandmother to Justin R Ball of New York City, Nicholis M Ball of West Point, New York, and Makenzie E Ball of Colonial Heights, Virginia. Yolie was also ‘Tante Yolande and Auntie "Yo Yo" to many nieces and nephews in the USA and Canada.

Yolie was born and raised in Ottawa by her mother, Germaine. She was the sister of John Laplante, Jeannette Charron (Laplante), Andre Laplante and Paul Laplante, all from the Ottawa Ontario area of Canada. She started her career working for the Bank of Canada in Ottawa. Her career with Trans-Canada Airlines is what brought her to the United States. In 1956, Yolie was transferred to the New York City office where she immigrated to the USA through historic Ellis Island, and her name is etched on the brick walls along with thousands of other immigrants.

Yolie met her husband Donald while working for Trans-Canada Airlines, later she worked for The First National City Bank of New York in New York City. They married at The Little Church Around the Corner in New York City in 1957. In 1962, Yolie moved with her husband to Millis, Massachusetts to raise their family. Yolie supported the family store, a pharmacy and soda fountain in Dover, Massachusetts by making several of the lunch items. She was most famous for her chopped ham and pickle, a sandwich still talked about to this day.

In the mid 70's Yolie went to work full time for Millipore Corporation in Milford, Massachusetts as a computer circuit board technician. She enjoyed a rewarding career there for over 20 years.

In 2003, Yolie and her husband Donald sold their home and store and fulfilled a life- long dream of moving to Florida where they lived until moving to Knoxville, Tennessee in September 2015.

Yolie enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and always loved meeting new people wherever she went. She loved reading, playing bingo, cards and dominoes. She enjoyed traveling, going to the beach, watching movies and knitting her world famous blankets, scarves, hats and sweaters.

Mrs Ball, Yolie, Mom, Gramma, Aunt Yolande was many things to many people, but most of all she was loved by everyone she met. A reception to honor Yolie is planned for Sunday December 4, 2016, at 5 PM at Gettysvue Polo, Golf and Country Club in Knoxville, Tennessee. A second remembrance is planned in Massachusetts for Saturday April 1, 2017.
