Jean Kuebler

(February 4, 1929 - March 6, 2011)

Jean Kuebler,
age 82 of Alanson, passed away peacefully at home on March 6, 2011 surrounded by her family and under the care of Hospice of the Straits.

Jean and her twin brother Joseph were born on February 4, 1929, in Petoskey, MI, the daughter of Stanley and Cecile (Stearns) Smith. She was raised in Alanson on the Smith Family Farm and gradated from Alanson High School in 1948.

On September 1, 1948, Jean married Homer Kuebler in Alanson and lived in many places until they made their home in Alanson. While raising their 6 daughters, Jean went to work as a Bus Driver for Alanson Schools. She then received a Clerical Degree from North Central Michigan College in 1981 and went to work at the Alanson Church of the Nazarene, as a secretary as well as the church board secretary. Following her retirement from the church, she and Homer joined MMAP, Mobile Missionary Assistance Program, and together they traveled for 10 years building and renovating churches and buildings.

Jean's greatest love was spending time with her family and taking care of them. Over time she cared for many other people as well, helping and caring for them as they needed.

She was a member of the Alanson Church of the Nazarene and enjoyed making and decorating cakes as well as being an artist and a poet.

Jean is survived by her husband of 62 years, Homer; 6 daughters, Patricia (Philip) Jones of White Cloud, MI, Beverly (James) Boyer of Amble, MI, Joyce Ransom of Cadillac, MI, Barbara Granger of Alanson, MI, Janice Bevans of Cadillac, MI, and Marcia Hoffman of Lapeer, MI; 13 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; her twin brother, Joseph (Ellamae) Smith; sister-in-law, Reva Smith and by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Cecile Smith, 2 brothers, Wilbur (Ruth) Smith and Ivile Smith; 2 sisters, Carolyn (Clifford) Schultz and Janet (John) Copeland; and by a son-in-law, Eric Hoffman.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 11, at 2:00pm at the Alanson Church of the Nazarene with Rev. David Brantley officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00pm (Noon) until the time of service.

Those wishing to make a donation in Jean's memory are asked to consider the Hospice of the Straits or Alanson Church of the Nazarene Food Pantry.
