Services held for Leona Herzberg

Funeral services for Leona C. Herzberg were held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, May 21, 1990, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Germantown, Iowa. The Rev. Charles Kramer officiated. The honorary pallbearers were Jadrin Irwin, Jeremy Suva, Luke Irwin and Bruce Herzberg. The pallbearers were Lonnie Gries, Rick Gries, Lonnie Puhrmann, Terry Kruse, Ronnie Gries, Scott Gries, Paul Puhrmann and Fred Kruse. The final resting place is St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Germantown, Iowa.

OBITUARY

Leona Caroline Herzberg, daughter of John W. and Ida Pauling Kruse, was born October 5, 1918, in O'Brien County, Iowa. She received her education at St. John's Lutheran School in Germantown.

On February 25, 1940, she was united in marriage to Elmer Herzberg at St. John's Lutheran Church. After their marriage, the couple farmed in O'Brien County until 1966 and then they moved to Marcus, where Leona worked in the office of Dr. Haines until her retirement in 1987. She continued to make her home in Marcus until entering St. Luke's Hospital in Sioux City and passing .away on. Friday, May 18, 1990, reaching the age of 71 years, 1 months and 13 days.

She was baptized on October 30, 1918, and later confirmed on April 9, 1933. She was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Germantown and active in the Ladies' Aid of the Church.

Leona leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Elmer of Marcus; four daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Marlin Gries of Marcus, Jan and Rodger Wolfe of Omaha, Nebraska, Linda and Ron Suva of Morse Bluff, Nebraska, Eileen and Joe Irwin of Marcus; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; two brothers, Lorenz Kruse of Paullina and Leslie Kruse, of Granville; one sister, Mrs, LaVera Puhrmann of Paullina; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
