Dorothy "Dottie" Walker, 82, died peacefully at home Friday afternoon with her family by her side. Born in New York to Harold and Jeanne Kreinik, she had been a resident of Syracuse since 1961 when her husband, Larry accepted a position at Upstate Medical Center. They raised their children here and enjoyed a good life. Dottie was an art teacher in the Liverpool Schools for over 30 years until retiring in 1995. She loved teaching children to appreciate and create artwork; she touched so many of her student's lives. She was an accomplished potter, and was for many years, a part of Clayscapes. Dottie was a past president of the twins and triplets club, and a volunteer with the American Cancer Society. A breast cancer survivor herself, she became a counselor and ambassador to other women who were fighting the same disease that she had conquered. Her family includes her husband, Larry, of 60 years; their son, Scott; their daughters, Carrie (Mark) Sayler, Leslie (Edward) Ashcraft and Ellen (Jim) Reidy; their grandchildren, Courtney, Abigail, Marissa, Brett, Danielle, Brittney, Brandon, Trevor and Hailey; nieces and nephews; and her grand-dogs, Striker, Duncon, Rheya and Buckley. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 1, at Sisskind Funeral Chapel. Friends may visit with the family immediately prior to the service on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral chapel, 3175 E. Genesee Street. Burial will be in the Beth Sholom section of Oakwood Cemetery. Contributions in Dottie's memory may be made to Hospice of CNY.
