Leona S. Herber, 95, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Paramount Baptist Church with Dr. Gil Lain and the Rev. Alan Williamson officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell St.

Mrs. Herber was born September 28, 1914, to Emil and Hannah Kraft in Winter Garden, Fla. She graduated from Shattuck, Okla., High School in May 1931. She married Harry J. Herber on June 3, 1934, in Shattuck and was happily married until he preceded her in death in 2001.

She was a member of Paramount Baptist Church since 1971. She worked as a waitress and in retail sales from 1927 to 1952 and was a cafeteria worker for Amarillo Independent School District from 1957 to 1963. She became cafeteria manager at Sunrise Elementary, Bowie Middle School and Caprock High School from 1964 to 1968. She became the assistant school food service director for AISD from 1968 to 1969. She became the school food service director for AISD from 1970 until her retirement in 1985. She was a member of Texas Retired Teachers Association, a life member of PTA of Texas, life member Texas School Food Service Association and was voted employee of the year, receiving the Robert Ashworth Award from AISD in 1983. She was a wonderful cook for her family and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband and daughter-in-law, Lisa Herber, in 2006.

Survivors include a son, Bud Herber of Amarillo; a sister, Esther Hamlin of Amarillo; a granddaughter, Hannah Herber of Amarillo; a niece, Betty Rannals of Amarillo; a nephew, Bob Hamlin of Amarillo; and several great-nieces and -nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Paramount Baptist Church or Ware Memorial Care Center.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.
