Rudolph J Kosir, age 86, of Ely, died February 14, 2010, at St. Michael's Health and Rehabilitation in Virginia.

He was born on October 28, 1923, to Alex and Louise (Strauss) Kosir in Elcor, Minn.

His family moved to Ely when Rudy was five years of age. He graduated from Ely Memorial High School class of 1941 and worked at the Pioneer Mine in Ely before enlisting in the United States Army. Rudy was an engineer in the Army, building bridges and airfields in England, France and Germany during World War II.

Following the war, Rudy worked in California as a lumberjack. On September 18, 1947, he married LaVeryn Udine Halamik and the couple moved back to Ely in 1949.

Rudy owned and operated Kosir Construction. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2717, American Legion Post No. 248 and the Ely Bowling League. Rudy was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing.

Rudy is survived by his wife, LaVeryn; children: Allen (Mary), Susan (Jerel) Lamoureux, Martin (Marilyn), Vance and Lorene (Scott) Johnson; 13 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and her sister, Jenny Zupanich.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Alex and Frank; and sisters: Louise and Mary.

Burial was in the Ely Cemetery.
