Anna was one of five daughters born to Johann Knutzen and his wife, the former Elizabeth Stamp. Her sisters were:
Christina Margaretta; Maria who married a Mr. Haney; Louise who married Alby Hoots; and Catrina Elisabeth who married E. M. Fleming.

Anna married James Wesley Hood, son of James and Avarilla (Lankford) Hood, in September of 1884 in Arthur, Douglas County, Illinois. She married (2) John Rahn after the death of James Hood in 1907.

Anna and James Hood were the parents of nine children:
1) Lilly Mae, b. 20 Apr 1886; d. 7 Jan 1964.
2) May Bell, b. 7 Mar 1888; d. 7 Mar 1888
3) William Harrison, b. 4 May 1889; d. 23 Dec 1937
4) Minnie Elizabeth, b. 25 Oct 1891; d. 16 Sep 1941
5) Charles Wesley, b. 15 June 1894l; d. 18 Sep 1980
6) Avarilla Grace, b. 8 July 1897; d. 3 Aug 1978
7) James Clarence, b. 7 Aug 1900; d. 10 Aug 1900
8) John Madison, b. 22 July 1901; d. 9 Sept 1908
9) Ida Pearl, b. 22 May 1904; d. unknown
