William Kenneth "Bill" Knox (1917 - 2011)

William "Bill" Kenneth Knox, 93, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2011. Service: 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Greenwood Garden Chapel. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Greenwood Garden Chapel. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's memory to Christ's Haven for Children, P.O. Box 467, Keller, Texas 76244.

William was born May 30, 1917, in Fort Worth to Mabel and Edgar Knox. He graduated from Polytechnic High School in Fort Worth and attended the University of Houston. Bill served in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee in North Africa in World War II. Bill designed and built pipelines for Brown & Root all over the United States as well as in Spain, Turkey, Libya, India, Bolivia, Angola and Yugoslavia. He loved to travel and visited every continent including, at the age of 92, a trip with his son to Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. Bill also enjoyed singing in the Chanters with the Masonic Shrine Temple in both Houston and Fort Worth. He was an avid golfer, proud of several holes-in-one and frequently shot his age; he also loved fishing-he caught a 43-inch bull red at age 90. Bill also enjoyed professional sports. He was a member of Northwest Church of Christ in Fort Worth until 2008, when he moved to Kingwood to live with his son. He joined the New Caney Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Jane Knox; his first wife, Anna Earl Johnson; then by his second wife, Lucy Hart Lowry; and son, Roger Kenneth Knox.

Survivors: Son, Bill E. Knox and wife, Pat, and their children, Billie Ann Johnson, Dawn Thomas, Julie Pilon, Jeff Cox, Kelly Knox Heintzelman; great-grandchildren, Eric, Keith and Kenneth Johnson, Kasey and Korey Pilon, Hunter Thomas and Henry Knox Heintzelman; sister-in-law, Bettye Chandler; niece, Patty Chandler Stevens and husband, Jody; nephew, Robert Chandler and wife, Diane, and their children, Trey and Katie of Fort Worth.
