Mary Ann Barton, daughter of Edward and Anna Svoboda Klaumann, was born March 30, 1912, in Richland Township, and died February 13, 2003, at the Republic County Hospital, at the age of 90.

She received her grade school education at Bates country school and attended Cuba High School.

She was united in marriage to Arthur B. Barton on March 21, 1934. To this union five children were born.

They started their married life on a farm near Brantfort. They moved to Cuba in 1942, where Art was a Standard Oil distributor. Later the family operated a dairy business and in 1947 they were employed by the Cuba Telephone Company. In the fall of 1966, they opened Barton's Hardware, which they operated together until Art's death in 1988.

Barton was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Cuba, former member of the old Presbyterian Guild, a 4-H leader, member of the Cuba Chapter 265, Order of Eastern Star, Cuba, and ZCBJ Fraternal Lodge.

She was preceded in death by her husband; and three grandchildren, Anna, Kathleen Baxa, and Craig Junek.

She is survived by her five children, Gloria Klima, Gladys Baxa, Marilyn Junek, Marvel Doctor and Arnold Barton; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Viola Giblin, Groves, TX.

Funeral services were held February 15, at the Presbyterian Church in Cuba. Burial was in Kopsa Cemetery.
