Burton Kirtley, Jr. married Margie Mason on 5 August 1946 at Paris, Texas. She was member of the East Ward faculty at the time of their marriage.
Burton Kirtley, Jr. became acting postmaster in November 1962 replacing Don R. Ray who was Acting Postmaster for 22 months. Congressman Purcell of Wichita Falls appointed Mr. Burton Postmaster in 1963.
Burton was a graduate of Allen Military Acadmey, North Texas State University. He served in the 90th Infantry in World War II seeing servie at D-Day in Normandy on 6 June 1944. Burton was section leader of the 359th Infantry Regiment. He was twice decorated and wounded in action.

France, Rhineland, Ardennes, Battle of the Bulge and Cent. Europe. Awarded Purple Heart, Bronze Star, ETO Ribbon with 5 battle stars and Combat Inf. Badge. Wounded in Germany, 1944. Discharged in 1945.
Burton Kirtley joined his father in Kirtley Drilling Company in Graham. He retired from the US Postal Service in 1982.
