Janet Gambacorto Chartrand, 81, of Fayetteville, passed away Friday after a brief illness at St. Joseph's Hospital. Janet Kinne was born on February 18, 1934 in Tully, NY. Over the years, she was employed by Hardware Mutual, Sears, Blitman & King and Jamesville-DeWitt Middle School. A loving and artistic mother and grandmother, Janet enjoyed sewing, designing jewelry and crafting hand-made greeting cards for friends and family. She sculpted and decorated Santa Claus figures that were a great source of pride. Janet loved hosting parties, especially New Year's with lifelong friends, Halloween with neighbors and holiday dinners with family. The years she spent in Pompey with husband Al included many happy celebrations. While living in Signal Hill, she learned to play mahjong and cherished her friendships with neighbors. She was predeceased by her husbands, Paul L. Gambacorto in 1980 and Elwyn M. (Al) Chartrand in 1999. Janet is survived by her three children: Nancy (Joseph) Ranieri, John (Mary) Gambacorto, Gail (William) Heussler and Al's children; Tom (Mary) Chartrand, Craig (Penny) Chartrand, Tamara (Doug) Dawkins, Jennifer Chrysler, and their children. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Paul, Paige and Piper Ranieri, Alyssa Kessler, Alexis Gambacorto, Judson and Jordan Heussler, along with many cherished nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23 at the Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 24 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Assumption Cemetery in Syracuse. Donations in Janet's memory may be made to the Food Bank of CNY, 7066 Interstate Island Rd, Syracuse, NY 13209.
