Cecil W. Papaw' Kingery
Cecil W. "Papaw" Kingery, 83, died Monday, March 18, 2002, at Brandywine Nursing
and Rehabilitation Center in Greenfield. He was a resident of Fortville.
He was born Dec. 2, 1918, in Mohawk. His parents were Fred and Gertrude (Webber)
Kingery. He married Virginia Murphy. She preceded him in death in 1973.
Survivors include a son, Mark Kingery of Shelbyville; four daughters, Glennetta
Turner of Mohawk, Karla Crossley of Wilkinson, Lea Ann Shelton of Franklin and
Jan Six of Greenfield; two brothers, Irvin Kingery of Mohawk and Frederick
Kingery of Ingalls; a sister, Effie Sigmond of Indianapolis; 11 grandchildren;
and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers; four
sisters; and a great-grandson.
He retired as a machine operator from Delco-Remy Plant 8 division of General
Motors Corp. after 29 years. He was also a self-employed carpenter.
He was a member of United Auto Workers Local 662.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
The Rev. Jeff Coon will conduct a service at 10:30 a.m. today at Ronald L. Seals
Funeral Home in Fortville. Burial will be at Gravel Lawn Cemetery in Fortville,
where Fortville American Legion Post 391 and Fortville Veterans of Foreign Wars
Post 6904 will conduct military graveside rites.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hancock County Boys and Girls Club in care
of the funeral home.
