DeLoris (Kienzle) Unrath, 72, Mandan, ND, passed away Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Sanford Health in Bismarck.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am CT, Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at United Methodist Church in Mandan, ND with Pastor Bruce Adams, officiating. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery south of Mandan at 2:00 pm.

Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, August 9, 2016 from 4:00 pm-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral home, Mandan with a prayer service at 7:00 pm. Visitation continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

DeLoris was born on January 17, 1944 in Streeter, ND to Ludwig and Martha (Albrecht) Kienzle. She was raised in the Streeter area, moving to Steele in 1950, and graduated from Steele High School in 1962. After graduation she worked at the Dakota National Bank in Bismarck. On December 25, 1962, she married Vernon Unrath. After they were married, they initially moved to Fort Hood, TX where Vernon was drafted into the Army. Following his service, they moved to numerous small towns across North Dakota in support of Vernon’s job with the railroad. They started their family with the adoption of their son Craig in 1968, and later adopting daughter Stephanie in 1972. In 1970 they made their home in Glen Ullin for nine years, after which they moved to Mandan, where they have lived since 1979.

DeLoris was very active in her United Methodist Church and Nifty Knotters. Her greatest joy came from her time as a “daycare Grandma” caring for numerous children of her friends and family, helping raise many of them from birth to their entry into school. She also loved flowers and was very good at creating floral arrangements. Her family meant the world to her and was her greatest pride.

She is survived by her husband, Vernon Unrath, Mandan, ND; mother-in-law, Martha (Roy) Dittus, Bismarck, ND; son Craig (Melissa) Unrath, Fort Leavenworth, KS; daughter, Stephanie (Jason) Bentz, Dickinson, ND; four grandchildren, Kelsie (Thayne) Maher, Dickinson, ND, Justin Bentz, Killdeer, ND, Megan and Tyler Unrath, Fort Leavenworth, KS; one great-grandchild, Cameron Maher; three brothers, Harley Kienzle, Fort Morgan, CO, Gary (Linda) Kienzle, Washburn, ND and Ron Kienzle, Bismarck, ND along with many nieces and nephews and relatives.

DeLoris was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Wilbert Kienzle and several aunts and uncles.
