EDEN — Mr. Allen Craig "Pappy" Kennon, 81, of 134 Green Pasture Lane in Ruffin passed away early Sunday, June 6, 2010 at Morehead Memorial Hospital.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at Boone-Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Mr. Kennon was born in Greensboro on August 11, 1928, a son of Hester Kennon and Airies Roberta East Kennon, both deceased. He was retired from Duke Power as a construction worker and was a member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Shirley Spivey Kennon of the home; his daughters, Rita McBride and husband, Jimmy of Eden, and Sandra Gibson and husband, Roger of Ringgold, VA; his sons, Calvin Kennon and wife, Pat of Greensboro, Randy Kennon of Yanceyville, and Thurman Land and wife, Linda of Eden; his step-daughters, Gidgett Way, Wendy Howlett and husband, James, and Maria Taylor; his 12 grandchildren; his 15 great-grandchildren; and his four great-great -grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at Boone-Reynolds Funeral Home, immediately prior to the service. At other times they will be at the residence, 134 Green Pasture Lane in Ruffin, or at the home of his daughter, Rita, 741 Davis Street in Eden.
