Death: Jan. 20, 1932
Crawfordsville

Mrs. Blaine A. Archey, then Mrs. Mary Archey, seems to be what she preferred to be called, because she apparently had a good marriage, and took it very seriously, but of course, both were the formal forms of address, for married women, and widows, at that time, too. She was born to Mr. & Mrs. John McColm Kendall & Sarah (Crew) Kendall, in April of 1852, on the family farm, four miles north, of New Richmond, Montgomery Co., Indiana, in Tippecanoe Co., Indiana, and she grew-up, in that area. She married Blaine Archey, early in 1872, and they had their two children, William (November 1872), and Harry (March 1881) in Tippecanoe County, moving to Crawfordsville, Montgomery Co., Indiana, in 1891, then to Frankfort, Clinton Co., Indiana, in 1900, where they engaged in the business of buying, and shipping, livestock. Mr. Archey died, in 1913, whereupon, Mrs. Archey, moved back to Crawfordsville, where she fell, and broke her hip, in March of 1928, and, reportedly, suffered patiently (all they did then, for a broken hip, was give you aspirin, and a walker, and a wheelchair, if you could afford them), until she died, in her own home, at 416 East Main Street, in Crawfordsville, at 2:00 P.M., on Wednesday, January 20, 1932, at 79 years of age. Her son, Will, had died in 1902, but her other son, Harry, was alive, and living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; her brother, John William Kendall (77), in Cherryvale, Kansas: her half-brother, Pembroke Reynolds (70), was still living, in Crawfordsville; and her half-sister, Lida (Mrs. George) Waters (68), was living near Lafayette, Indiana. The Rev. John S. Ward, of the First Methodist Church, in Crawfordsville, of which she had been a member, the whole time she lived in Crawfordsville, conducted her funeral, in the Utterback-Murphy Funeral Home there, at 2:00 P.M., on Friday, January 22, 1932. Nothing was written, in either her husband's obituary, or her two obituaries, about either of them, either being prededed in death, or survived, by any grandchildren, but we know that she was survived by several nephews and nieces, at least, by her brother, John Kendall's, three sons, and two daughters. May she rest in peace.
