Aurlene Christensen Kelsey passed away on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at Brighton Gardens Assisted Living Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. She resided at 1565 East Kensington Avenue (1545 South) in the Foothill neighborhood of Salt Lake City, Utah at the time of her death.
Aurlene was born December 18, 1913 in Salem, Utah to Soren Peter and Julia Henrietta Sabin Christensen. She graduated from Spanish Fork High School and attended Brigham Young University.
After their ten-year whirl-wind courtship, Aurlene married Fred Beddoes Kelsey in 1947. They made their home in Salt Lake City.
Aurlene loved being outdoors. In her youth, she much preferred helping her father with the farm work to doing housework. She loved picking tomatoes but wasn't fond of thinning beets. As an adult, she was often outside, either enjoying neighborhood walks with her family or working in her yard, planting, watering, or weeding.
An artist at heart, Aurlene was the creator of beautiful clothes, a lovely yard and home, and many culinary delights. Her children and husband made good use of her skills as a beautician, her occupation before she married. She also enjoyed traveling, and was able to visit some of the natural and art treasures of the world with family and friends.
Later in life, Aurlene continued to be physically active, playing tennis with her husband and friends until she was eighty-four years of age.
Throughout her life, she served in many callings for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, including Primary, Relief Society, and Cub Scouts. But her greatest joy was her family and friends, especially her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by children Ann (Lester), Fred (Robin) and Margaret (William); grandchildren Miyo and Will; sister Lois Peterson; and brother Lynn Christensen. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; sisters Inez Halladay, Elaine Johnson, Naomi Wride, and Dorothy Eddington; and brothers Kenneth Christensen, Jerry Christensen, Glade Tanner, and George Tanner.
A graveside celebration of Aurlene's life will be held at Salem City Cemetery in September 2010 (date to be determined).
