MADISON - Joyce M. Estes, 77, passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2011, at home with family by her side. Joyce was born in Madison at the Bell Farm on Preble Avenue on Nov. 9, 1933. She was the oldest daughter of Stephen P. and Pearl E. (Reed) Kelly.
She attended Madison schools and graduated from high school in 1952 where she played basketball and was involved in Commercial Club activities. As a teen, she worked at the Corn Cob in Anson and Don and Edna Clement's camps in Belgrade.
She married Leo D. Estes on Aug. 28, 1953 in Skowhegan. She worked at Norwock Shoe in Norridgewock, ran her own boarding home, and worked at Bragg's, Quiet Acres, Jacob's and Somerset Residential nursing homes before retiring.
Joyce is predeceased by her parents, brothers and sister-in-law Richard H. Saucier, George Estes, Arthur Estes, Raymond Estes and Harold and Dot Vancour.
She is survived by her husband, Leo of 57 years who showed patience, care, and love during this difficult time; children, Donald Estes and wife Kathy of Madison, Howard Estes and fiancˇe Jill Berryman of Norridgewock, and Theresa and husband William Bookheim of Madison; grandchildren, Corey Estes and wife Penny of Madison, Ryan Estes and wife Myra of Madison, Kiki Dill and husband Justin of New Sharon, Brad Estes and fiancˇe Lucy Koroma of Nashville, Tenn., Kyla Estes of Gardiner, Sarah Estes of Morgantown, W.Va., and Stephen Bookheim of Madison; great-grandchildren Alyssa, Nicholas, MaKayla, Brianna, Izayah, Matthew, L.J., Peyton, Xavier, Rhyse, and Dakota; brothers, Donald F. Kelly and wife Janice of Augusta, and Alva Reed and wife Shirley of N. Anson; sisters, Sheila K. Henderson and husband David of Bristol, Vt., Carolee R. Barron and husband Dennis of Madison, Gail K. Saucier of Madison and several nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by sisters-in-law Arlene Dennigan of Nashua, N.H., Barbara Estes and Connie Estes, both of Lowell, Mass., Eileen Estes of Belfast, Olive Estes of Skowhegan, and Mary and Robert Rowell of Madison. She will also be missed by special friends Karen Franzose and Mary Jackson.
Graveside services will be held at the Forrest Hill Cemetery in Madison.
