May 6, 1920 ~ Sep 2, 2009

Esther passed away at age 89 at the Ray Hickey House in Vancouver, Washington. She died of complications from a recent fall and subsequent pneumonia. Born in Salem, Oregon to James and Dollie Bevens, Esther was the youngest child. Her sisters Vera and Lola and brother Wes all preceded her in death. She married Clyde Moore (deceased) in 1937 and had two children, Ron and Janet (deceased). In 1980 she married Clifford Kays, who passed away in 1988. Fred Lindsey was her partner for a number of years, until he passed away in 2008. She leaves behind three granddaughters, Christy Schmidt, Kara Prescott, and Paula Dickens; two grandsons, Bryan Plaisted and Tom Phillips; her nephew, Jim Bevens, daughter-in-law, Cleo Moore, and son-in-law, Dennis Phillips. She has six great-grand children and one great-great grandchild.

For more than 60 years Esther lived in Hazel Dell, WA in the house built by her husband Clyde Moore. She had careers as a manager of the Totem Pole Restaurant in Hazel Dell and as a cook at Hazel Dell Elementary and Columbia River High Schools. Throughout her life she accompanied her husbands on fishing, hunting and camping trips throughout Oregon, Washington and Alaska. This experience clearly led to her lifelong love for cooking, canning, and tending to her formidable vegetable gardens, all of which she happily shared with her family and friends. Her home was the gathering spot for all of life's celebrations. She personified those virtues of a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and caregiver. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A private graveside service will be held for the family. Memorial contributions can be made to the Ray Hickey Hospice House, P.O. Box 1600, Vancouver, Washington 98668.
