John Kane was born in County Antrim Ireland in 1734. He came to this country and married Sybil Kent, dau of Rev Elisha Kent, about 1756. He was a Tory in the American Revolution and his house in Pawling NY was occupied by George Washington during the war. The house is now the property of historical society and may be seen.
He died in 1808 in Red Hook NY and was initally buried in the First Presby Church yard in Albany and moved in 1867 to Albany Rural along with the tombstone. James Kent is also buried in the same lot, but no headstone. The lot in Albany Rural was purchased by Mrs. John P. Witherill in 1867 for $20.00
