New York, USA
Death: Aug. 24, 2005, USA

Singer. Harold "Hal" Kalin was the older of the popular singing duo "The Kalin Twins" with his brother, Herbert "Herb" Kalin who made a name for themselves in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Hal and Herb Kalin were born and grew up in Port Jervis, New York. The boys began singing together at a young age performing at local events and dances and, as they got older, night clubs. In 1957, they got their big break by signing a record contract with Decca. Their biggest hit was their first one, the now classic "When", which also gained the twins an international fan base. Their popularity led to many appearances on television shows such as Dick Clark's American Bandstand, The Merv Griffin Show and The Ed Sullivan Show. After years of touring the country and the world, the Kalin Twins took a break from their singing career and worked outside the music industry. In 1989, they were asked to return to England to appear at Wembley Stadium with entertainer Cliff Richard in front of a huge crowd. They left a legacy on the evolution of music, as the next generation of stars, The Rolling Stones and The Beatles among them, credited the Kalin Twins' sound with having influenced their careers. Hal Kalin died of injuries in an automobile accident at the age of 71. Brother Herb died as a result of a heart attack less than year later. They were still performing up to the time of Hal's death and are buried side by side.
