Myrtle Beach--Anita Joye Godfrey, age 71, died Monday, November 02, 2009 at home after a long battle with illness.

Mrs. Godfrey was born January 4, 1938, a daughter of the late Arthur Henry Joye and Mary Bellotte Joye. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Laurel, MD and served on the board of the American Red Cross at the 8th Army Hospital in Seoul, South Korea. Mrs. Godfrey was also an active volunteer of the Meals On Wheels program in Laurel, MD. She was employed primarily in the banking industry working at both the SC National Bank in Charleston, SC and the National Institute of Health Credit Union in Rockville, MD. Mrs. Godfrey graduated from North Charleston High School in Charleston, SC and attended the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC.

Surviving are her husband, Kenneth F. Godfrey, Sr. of Myrtle Beach, SC; two sons, Kenneth F. Godfrey, Jr. of Charleston, SC and Daniel A. Godfrey and wife Synthia both of Los Angeles, CA; one daughter, Lisa J. Godfrey of Myrtle Beach, SC; one granddaughter, Jennifer N. Quicksell of Myrtle Beach, SC; and one brother, James L. Joye of Summerville, SC; a sister-in-law, Iris G. Rubio of Charleston, SC; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel November 5th at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Jane Pearce officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.

The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers contributions be sent to Mercy Hospice & Palliative Care, PO Box 50640, Myrtle Beach, SC 29579.
