Betty Collins Jones, age 77, born July 14, 1929, was welcomed into her place in Heaven on Saturday March 10, 2007. She died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Carrollton, Georgia.
Betty was the Founder of the "Friends of New Hope Boys' Home" in Carrollton, and was anxiously awaiting its Grand Opening on April 13, 2007 where she will have a dedicated game room in her honor. As an officer for the Boys Home, she spent countless hours on support and fundraising.
She was a cherished member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Carrollton for 22 years; Former Director of Friends of the Library; and a former member of the Carrollton Civic Woman's Club.
Betty also worked as a sales consultant for Mary Kay Cosmetics, and was a former model and showroom representative for the Atlanta Merchandise Mart. She founded The Dixie Belles at North Fulton High School in 1948, a social club for teenage girls. In 1956 she was awarded the pageant title of Mrs. Georgia.
While living in Valdosta, she worked with the Georgia Sheriff's Boys Ranch and was instrumental in establishing the Christian Woman's Club. She also is a published author of several books and short stories, including Clouds Across the Moon (1991), and Carol, a murder mystery.
Betty is survived by her loyal and loving husband of 43 years, CV (Red) Jones, her brother E. Turner and Marion Collins of St. Simons, and her five children: Camilla and Kaye Ellenburg of Marietta, Dean and Patti Reeves of Suwanee, Russell and Sheila Reeves of Suwanee, Clif Jones of Sherman Oaks, CA, and Karyn and Dennis Lynch of Columbia, SC. Betty also had 14 grandchildren and was expecting her 10th great-grandchild this spring.
Interment will be in Westview Cemetery in Atlanta at 2 pm.
