She was born June 14, 1925 to Edna Cynthia Layton and Doctor Byron Jones in Thatcher, Arizona and was raised in Los Angeles, California from age three. A student at the University of California at Los Angeles, she received her Associates Degree in 1945.
She married Kay H. Clifford on December 20, 1947 in Mesa, Arizona and has missed her sweetheart dearly since his death ten years ago. The two raised their children in Arcadia, California, where Kay practiced dentistry and she raised her eight children with infinite love, abundant joy, and unshakable faith.
Her life modeled so beautifully the Savior's life: A life of service, abiding love and devotion to friends and family, and tireless dedication to God. Anyone who knew her basked in the light of her effervescent demeanor and optimistic spirit. Her greatest achievement in her own estimation, was her eight children whom she adored.
A fiercely loyal partner to her darling Kay, she committed herself to lovingly supporting him for fifty-three years. She was the mother of eight children, "Nani" to thirty-one grandchildren, and nineteen great-grandchildren.
Her goodness, strength of character, legacy of love, service, and devotion to others will always be remembered by those who knew her.
She served as mission mother in the Houston, Texas Mission and Matron of the Oakland Temple. Other callings included Relief Society teacher, Relief Society President, Stake Young Women's Leader, and numerous other positions. Ruth and Kay made their home in Salt Lake City from 1994 until the present.
She is survived by her oldest brother, Layton Jones and older sister, Helen Jones Buffington as well as her children: Kathleen Harward (Don), Christopher Jones Clifford (Mary), Craig Jones Clifford (Kathleen), Kimberly Dixon, Karen Mangum (Michael), Curtis Jones Clifford (Denise), Clark Jones Clifford, and Kelly Cook (Rich).
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 in the afternoon on Saturday, February 26, 2011 in the Federal Heights Ward Building, 1300 Fairfax Road (directly south of Shriner's Hospital). The family will be pleased to greet friends and family at 10:30 a.m. in the Relief Society room.
