Mrs. Lucille Gunter Jones, age 91, died peacefully on January 2, 2016 surrounded by her family.
The Bulloch County native was born Mildred Lucille Gunter on October 28, 1924.
Mrs. Jones made her home in Pooler, GA. before relocating to Birmingham, AL. where she lived for the past 6 years. She enjoyed gardening, volunteering at her church, and visiting family.
Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Jones; her parents, Julian Perry and Paunee Quattlebaum Gunter; four brothers, Cecil, Ray, Herschel, and Emory; two sisters, Frances Gunter and Margaret Miley.
Surviving are two children, Joyce Wingard (Dave) of Birmingham AL., and Debbie Ray (Randy) of Greenville, SC.; three grandchildren, Andrew Wingard (Brooke) of Birmingham AL., Stephanie Williamson (Temple) of Corpus Christi, TX., and Kristin Ray of Greenville, SC.; 3 great-grandsons, Jones & Luke Wingard of Birmingham, AL., Trent Williamson of Corpus Christie, TX.; one great-granddaughter, Stella Williamson of Corpus Christie, TX. One brother, Charles E. Gunter of Statesboro, GA; one sister, Nell Farr (Lanny) of Blackshear, GA.
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, January 5, from 10:00am until 11:00am at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home, Statesboro, GA.
Funeral services will follow in the chapel.
Interment will be in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions be made to the local chapter of Alzheimer’s Association or Pooler First Baptist Church, 204 West Highway 80, PO Box 506, Pooler, GA 31322.
