Ligonier, PA: Ligonier Echo, issue of Friday, 13 September 1935, p. 4, col. 1

Mrs. Rebecca Black

Mrs. Rebecca Johnston Black, aged 79 years, one of the town's oldest and best known residents, died at 11:15 o'clock Thursday evening, September 5th, at her home on Market street, following a brief illness. She had suffered a stroke, Monday, from which she never recovered.

The deceased was the widow of the late Harvey Black, a merchant here for many years. Mrs. Black was a resident of Ligonier most of her life, and was well known throughout the valley. She was a member of the Ligonier Methodist Episcopal church.

Surviving are the following children: Mrs. Richard McConnaughey, Mrs. N.M. Weller and Robert Black, all of Ligonier. A brother, L.B. Johnston, of Lorraine, Ohio, also survives, as do five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services in charge of her pastor, Rev. Harry Headlee, were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, from her late home. Interment was made in the Ligonier valley cemetery.
