Birth: Jan. 9, 1855
Death: Dec. 31, 1935

Haxtun Harvest, Haxtun, Colorado, January 1, 1936

Mrs. J.P. Anderson, one of the pioneer citizens of the Haxtun community, passed away at her home here Tuesday afternoon at 2:55 o'clock. Had she lived until the ninth day of January, Mrs. Anderson would have been 81 years of age. She had been in failing health for a year or more, and during the last week her illness had been critical.

Miss Anna Johnson was born in Sweden on January 9, 1855. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1868. On April 7, 1877 she was united in marriage with J.P. Anderson. Three children were born to them before they moved to America.

Mr. Anderson came to Haxtun in 1882, and in 1888 his wife and children joined him here to make their home. They lived on the Anderson homestead south of Haxtun for many years, and here Mrs. Anderson reared her children and endured the hardships of the early days in the west.

The family moved to town in the spring of 1920, and in September of that year Mr. Anderson passed away.

Mr. and Mrs. Anderson had long been associated with the life of Haxtun. Perhaps no other family in this community has been so prominent in the history of the town. With others who settled here when the county was young, they boasted of many pioneer experiences.

Mrs. Anderson is survived by seven children: Andrew J. of Chicago, Illinois, Mrs. Anna Banister of Haxtun, Axel F. of Denver, Mrs. Alma Johnson, Mrs. Augusta Burnett, Haxtun; Mrs. Alice Sunbarger of Sterling, and Arthur of Haxtun. There are also four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at two o'clock Friday afternoon from the Methodist church. The services will be conducted by the Rev. Alexander Bryans and the Rev. E.W. Fondell. Burial will be in the Haxtun cemetery.
