Elbert Johnson, 87, of Gulfport died Saturday, December 4, 2010 in Gulfport. He was born in Gulfport to the late Hamp and Mary Johnson on October 11, 1923.

Elbert attended Thirty-Third Avenue High School graduated in 1941. He served in the United States Army during WWII and received an honorable discharge. He was employed with the City of Chicago for 42 years of service. He was a member of Little Rock Baptist Church, Gulfport.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Ernestine Johnson, three brothers, Edward, Lee Ernest and Samuel Johnson; two sisters, Bernice Benjamin and Elizabeth Johnson. He leaves fond memories with his devoted wife of 63 years Minnie Dawson Johnson, three sons, Phillip and Michael Johnson of Chicago, IL, Elbert Johnson, Jr. of St. Paul, MN; four daughters, Rosemary Jordan Johnson of Gulfport, Edith Johnson of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, Emily (Min. Emmett) Harrison of Warrenville Heights, OH, Cynthia Johnson of Chicago, IL; one beloved and faithful sister, Edith Johnson of Gulfport; two brothers , Hamp Johnson, Jr. of Gulfport and Clarence James of Chicago, IL; one sister-in-law, Emily Rogers, 19 grand-children 31 great grand-children, 24 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral service will be Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. at Little Rock Baptist Church with visitation 10:30-11:30 a.m.. Burial Biloxi National Cemetery.
