Hilda M. Johnson, 100, of Barron and formerly of Haugen, died March 19 at Barron Nursing Home. Funeral services are this Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. at Jarocki Funeral Chapel in Rice Lake, with the Rev. Brian Mundt officiating. Buyrial is Thursday at Bohemian National Cemetery in Haugen. Visitation is this Wednesday at the funeral home for 1 hour before the service.
Mrs. Johnson was born Dec. 11, 1904 to John and Emma (Paska) Hubeler in Greene, Iowa. She moved to the Haugen area with her parents at the age of 11, where she finished her education and then earned teaching certification at Barron County Normal School in Rice Lake. Mrs. Johnson taught at Nobleton Rural School and later at Sunnyside District School. On May 21, 1924 she married Arnold Johnson at Haugen and became a homemaker. The couple later moved to Worthington, Minn. They moved to Chicago in 1942 and returned to Haugen in 1950 and farmed near Bear Lake until 1964, when they retired and moved into Rice Lake. Mrs. Johnson enjoyed music and crossword puzzles.
She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Solie of Barron; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Beth Drost of Portage.
Mrs. Johnsonís husband, Arnold, died in 1973. A son also preceded her in death.
