MIDDLEWAY, W.Va. - Carroll H. "Pappy" Johnson, 86, of Middleway, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.

Born Dec. 19, 1912, in Middleway, he was the son of the late Charles H. and Edith Isler Johnson.

He retired in 1977 from the Martin-Marietta plant, Martinsburg, after 41 years as a construction superintendent.

He was a member of Middleway United Methodist Church, Middleway, where he served on the board of trustees, and Men's Bible Class.

He was a member and past member of Tri-Luminar Masonic Lodge 117 AF and AM, and Bethesda Chapter 16, Middleway.

He is survived by:
his wife of 65 years, Mary Alda Pierce Johnson; one son, Thomas Johnson of Middleway; two grandchildren and
a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by:
three sisters, Mary Light, Edith Grove and Helen Aguiar; and two brothers, Finley W. Johnson and Thomas Johnson.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, W.Va. The Rev. Charles Frum and the Rev. Patricia Drake will officiate. Burial will be in Middleway Masonic Cemetery, Middleway.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
