India Johnson was a daughter of James William Johnson 1857 – 1928 and Jennie B Johnson (no Maiden Name) 1882 – 1924. She had one known older sister, Blanche Johnson born in 1910.
Tennessee State Marriages confirms that Newton Cooter married India Johnson on 4 Nov 1928 in Hawkins Co., Tennessee. From this marriage the following children were born: Francis L Cooter 1930, Hilly J Cooter 1933; J M Cooter 1935 and Edna F Cooter 1939.

A volunteer for Find a Grave found Newt and India's tombstone in the Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery in Baileyton, Greene County, Tennessee, and created memorials for them.
