Evelyn May Johnson, 84, a longtime Lewiston resident, died Sunday at the Lewiston Rehabilitation and Care Center from complications of diabetes.

She was born March 12, 1914, to Gilbert and Martha M. Porter Hogaboam on the family farm in the Tom Beall area near Lapwai. She attended the North Tom Beall School and Lapwai High School.

She married Leo Johnson on Oct. 20, 1941 at Lewiston. He died in 1988. After her marriage, the couple moved to Lewiston, living several years in North Lewiston. After breaking her hip, she had been a resident of the care center. She enjoyed crafts, needle work and reading the Bible as well as being with her family. She was active in church.

She is survived by her daughter, Eldonna Stratford of Columbia, MD.; a brother, Porter Hogaboam of Lapwai; and a grandson. She was preceded in death by a brother and a grandson.

A private family graveside service will take place at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens at Lewiston. Cremation has taken place. Mountain View Funeral Home at Lewiston is in charge of arrangements.
