Roberta Connolly, 96, of Whitney passed away Sunday afternoon, May 26, 2013. On January 31, 1917 she was born in Meridian to Berry and Dorothy Hastings Johnson.

She grew up there and graduated from Meridian High School and subsequently Hillsboro Junior College. She married Earl Connolly on December 31, 1939 in Whitney and he preceded her in death on October 31, 1977.

Roberta taught school for a few years at Fort Graham and Whitney Elementary schools. After her time teaching, she was a devoted farmer's wife, adeptly handling all that job entailed. An excellent cook, she was especially known for her cakes and pies. For a time, she also worked at Cato Drug Store.

Roberta had a beautiful alto voice and loved to sing. Even during her years at Park Plaza she continued to sing and share her talent. She was a member of King Memorial United Methodist Church and was also active for a number of years in the Huron Home Demonstration Club, where she was a charter member.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, seven sisters and one brother. She is survived by three children, Donna, Nancy and Chris; 5 grand children and a number of great-grand children and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at the Chapel in Whitney. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro.
