Wadene Hays was born March 21, 1929 in Ardmore, OK, the daughter of Grover and Alta Jobe. She passed away Friday, June 12, 2015 in Guthrie, OK at the age of 86.

Wadene was raised in Ardmore with two sisters, Vivian and Eulela, and two brothers, Bryan and Walter. She graduated from Ardmore High School in 1947 and then became employed with Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator. Wadene married McDonald Hays on Christmas Eve 1949. The two began their family in Ardmore first with a daughter, Donna, then a son, David. The couple moved to Duncan in 1956, completing their family with a third child, Deanna. They enjoyed the comforts that Duncan provided for 56 years.

Wadene’s pride and joy was being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was involved and played an active role in all aspects of her children’s lives by being their homeroom mother, Brownie and Den leader, Sunday School teacher, and a sponsor to her daughter’s sorority. She and Don always enjoyed being with their friends and neighbors. Early on it was being on a bowling league and later tailgating before OU football games. Wadene was a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha; serving in leadership positions both locally and at the state level as well as nationally. Wadene’s delight was helping others, and she did a wonderful job serving those whom she considered her friends and family.

Wadene re-entered the workforce in 1968 working for the Oklahoma Corporation Commission until 1995. After retirement she filled her days with playing bridge, needlepoint, reading books, and working in the library at First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Walter Jobe and Bryan Jobe; and two sisters Vivian Jobe and Eulela Cavins.

Survivors include her husband, Don of the home; son and daughter-in-law, David and Karen Hays of Edmond, OK; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Carl McSpadden of Parker, CO and Deanna and Jim Yates of Honolulu, HI; six grandchildren, Magen and Justin Dodge, Rachel and Aaron Owens, Mallory Yates, Thomas and Jordan Hays, Marti and Hunter Cook, and Allyson Yates; and six great-grandchildren.
