Mary Ellen (Jewett) Aherne, age 92, of Weymouth passed away Thursday, April 26, 2012, at the Bay Path Rehabilitation Center in Duxbury. She was born and raised in Brockton. She enjoyed knitting and was an avid Boston Red Sox Fan. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a former communicant of Immaculate Conception Church and former member of the Womens Auxiliary. Beloved wife of the late Charles F. Aherne, she was the devoted mother of Elene F. Chearney and her late husband Michael of BelAir, Md., John J. Aherne and his wife Elena of Pembroke, Mary E. Boucher and her husband John of Pembroke and Patricia A. Weir and her husband Richard of Londonderry, N.H.; sister of Margaret Lipper of Brockton and the late James Jewett, Robert Jewett, William Jewett and Catherine Campbell. Also survived by 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral from the McDonald Funeral Home South Weymouth, at 809 Main St. (Rte. 18 opposite South Shore Hospital), Wednesday at 8:45 a.m. Funeral Mass to follow in Saint Mary of the Sacred Heart Church, Hanover, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. Interment in Saint Patricks Cemetery, Rockland.
