The following Obituary was taken from the memorial service program. Service was held Friday, February 17 at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Spring. Private family burial was conducted on Thursday, February 16, at Budde Cemetery.
Nell Christine Jeter Atkins was born in Vivian, Louisiana and was the fourth child of Ernest and Mamie Jeter. She passed from this life on February 12, 2012 in a Houston hospital at the age of 84. She is survived by her husband, Wayne Atkins; three son, Michael, Glenn and Chris; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Nell and Wayne were maried for 64 wonderful years, having met at Centenary College in Shreveport. Louisiana. Nell was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who devoted herself to her family and who brought joy and laughter into everyone's life. She was also a dedicated Christian whose strong faith permeated all aspects of her life.
Nell was a memeber of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, an avid gardner, a talented seamstress and painter, a herbalist and gifted cook. She loved to bird watch, read, attend Bible study, and listen to music. Nell was a wonderful story-teller who shared with her children and grandchildren many tales about her long and colorful life. She was kind and soft-spoken, yet assertive of her beliefs and strong in her convictions.
Nell will be greatly missed by those whose lives she touched. Rather than mourn her passing, she would want her family and friends to celebrate her life, to enjoy sweet memories of her with laughter, and to be comforted by knowing that she is now with God and at peace.
