Mrs. Mardell Jenkins Brinson, age 85, died on August 26, 2010, at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility. The Screven County native was a 1940 graduate of Screven County High School and was a bookkeeper for Boyer Stockyard in Sylvania. Mrs. Brinson moved to Statesboro in 1959 and was the bookkeeper for Piggly Wiggly until 1967; she also was a teller for Sea Island Bank for over 18 years. She, along with her husband, opened Brinson's IGA in 1967 where she served as bookkeeper until her retirement in 1995. She was a member of the Delta Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Statesboro, and was an active member of the Ruby Lanier Circle and the Dan Williams Fellowship Class. She was an avid card player and played in several groups. She was preceded by her husband, Hoot Brinson, in 1966.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn and Salli Brinson and Preston and Brenda Brinson, all of Statesboro; four grandchildren, Cyndi (Ronnie) Williams of Brooklet, Chris (Elaine) Brinson of Statesboro, William (Angela) Horne of Pooler and Matt Brinson of Statesboro; three great grandchildren; one sister, Miriam "Pete" Daniel of Warner Robins.
The visitation will be held on Saturday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Joiner Anderson Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jimmy Cason officiating.
The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Emerson Thompson, Ronnie Jenkins, Mike Jenkins, Bruce Dunkley, Raleigh Bacon and Wayne Jackson.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Dan Williams Fellowship Class, the Delta Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, and her "Card Playing Friends".
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice.
