"Sadie" was born in Beaufort, South Carolina the daughter of George Washington Seabrook Jenkins and his wife Sarah Mills Cornish. She was graduated in 1905 from St. Mary's School, Raleigh , North Carolina, and received her certificate in music from St. Mary's and Virgil School of Music, New York City. Before her marriage, Sadie taught piano at Winthrop College, Rock Hill, South Carolina. Active in church and musical activities, she became active in civic affairs as well in Asheville, NC. After her marriage she served in the League of Women Citizens. In 1839, she organized St. Luke's Auxillary with other physicians' wives at the South Carolina Tuberculosis Sanitorium. In the 1960's she was a legislative observer for the League of Women Voters.During World War II, she volunteered her services to the American Red Cross Blood Center in Columbia, South Carolina. She was a member of Daughters of 1812, Daughters of the American Colonists, and the Daughters of the American Revolution.She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Columbia for many years, where she was in charge of Christian education for many years. She was chairperson of the Upper Diocese of South Carolina for Christian Education for many years.

She married her husband Dr. George Cullen Battle, II in 1913 and was the mother of five children: Sarah Jenkins Battle, George Cullen Battle, III, John Cornish Battle, William Clement Battle, and Elizabeth Philips Battle.
