The Late Mrs. Helen Barber.
At Philadelphia on Wednesday occurred the death of Mrs. Helen Barber, as noted in Yesterday's Record, a lifelong resident of this valley and for many years past one of the most respected residents of this city. Deceased was 60 years of age and was the widow of Col. Albert P. Barber whose military service during the Civil War is well known to the residents of the valley. Col Barber during the latter part of the war was in command of Battery M, 2d Penna. Heavy Artillery.
Mrs. Barber was the mother of Miss Josephine Barber of Buffalo, Mrs. William Gray of Philadelphia, Theodore S. Barber, Mrs. Laura Pierson and Mrs. George R. McLean of this city, and a sister-in-law of Hon E. H. Butler of Buffalo. Mrs. J. J. Schooley of this city is Mrs. Barber's only sister. Mrs. Barber's father was Hyde Jenkins, well known in this valley, and her mother was Mary Larned.
The deceased was a woman of exceptionally good qualities, with a gentle, retiring disposition, devoted to her family and active in good works. She was a consistent member of the Presbyterian Church since her childhood, having first joined the faith in the church of Rev. N. G. Parke, who was at that time pastor of the Pittston Presbyterian Church.
At the time of death, Mrs. Barber was visiting her daughter, the wife of Professor Gray of Philadelphia. Death was caused by pleurisy and complications developed from a cold.
The funeral will take place at her late residence, 148 South Franklin street, this afternoon at 2 o'clock. Services will be conducted by Rev. Dr. Fullerton of the First Presbyterian Church of this city and interment, which will be private, will be in the family plot in Forty Fort Cemetery.
