Grace Jarnagin Cooley

Passed away on Aug. 7, 2012 and resided in Knoxville, TN.
COOLEY, GRACE JARNAGIN, age 91, passed away on August 7, 2012. She is survived by three children, Hope Cohn, Caroline Cooley and Bo Cooley and eight grandchildren. Grace was married to Robert N. Cooley Sr., M.D. for 40 years until his death in 1988. She was a distinguished alumna of Girls Preparatory School of Chattanooga, Maryville College and the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. Her experience as a nurse in the US Army during WWII profoundly affected her, and she became a vocal advocate for peaceful resolution of conflicts. Grace was a published author and enjoyed a variety of hobbies including painting, foreign travel and languages. She was also an active member of her beloved Second Presbyterian Church for many years, and a tireless worker for many community causes and international humanitarian organizations. She was passionate about work for social change in Central America.
A private memorial service will be held at Monticello Memorial Gardens in Charlottesville, VA where Grace will be interred with her husband. A local remembrance and celebration of Grace's life is being planned for friends and loved ones. Grace Cooley was a resident of Renaissance Terrace Assisted Living, Knoxville, and Little Creek Sanitarium. Her family sincerely appreciates the loving and competent care she received at these facilities.
