Richard "Dick" Jannings, 75, of Davenport passed away at his home on Sunday, November 14, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am Friday, November 19, 2010 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Thursday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Quad City Animal Welfare Center or Gilda's Club. Mr. Jannings was born January 29, 1935 in Hillsboro, Iowa, the son of Rex and Isabell (Blickle) Jannings. During the Korean Conflict, he served in the U.S. Army. On June 6, 1959, he married Bernice Kelly in Princeton, Missouri. In 1990 he retired following a thirty year career with the U.S. Corps of Engineers.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter, enjoyed stock car racing, local and NASCAR, and was an all-around handyman, especially famous for his log-splitters.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice; son Jeffery (Debbie) Jannings; daughter Diana (Jeffery) Fischlein; two grandchildren: Marshall Fischlein and Kelly Jo Jannings; foster grandson SGT Bryan (Kelly) Pesis and their children Cole and Jillian; brother Robert (Mary) Jannings; two sisters Donna (Bill) Reed and Carol "DeDe" Goodson; brother-in-law Charles (Mary) Kelly; several nieces and nephews and his beloved black Lab, Maggie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law, and a brother-in-law.
