Vera Broome, 88, of Rice Lake died July 26 at the Rice Lake Convalescent Center. A Mass of Christian burial was Monday morning at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rice Lake with the Rev. James Powers officiating and interment at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Mrs. Broome was born June 23, 1919 in the Town of Crystal to Hubert and Borghild (Skinvik) Jacoby. She graduated from Rice Lake High School in 1937 and worked for Boehmer's and doctors J.T. Cornwall and Wiger. She was married on April 23, 1941 to William Broome Jr. in Cottage Grove. Following her husband's death, she was employed as a secretary at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rice Lake. Mrs. Broome enjoyed reading and was an accomplished pianist and played piano for residents of the Convalescent Center and for their various church services.
She is survived by three daughters, Beverly Krajicek of Papillion, Neb., Mary Berhow of Lancaster, Pa., and Marjorie Hubler of Mound, Minn.; four sons, Bill of Bremerton, Wash., Dan of Williston, N.D., Bradley of Dickinson, N.D., and Douglas of Milton, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
