Mrs. Bestel was born April 4, 1906, in Marion, Ohio. Her maiden name was Jackson. She moved to Portland as a teen-ager and graduated from Jefferson High School. She studied music at the Cornish Music School in Seattle and was a self-employed music teacher for 65 years in Portland. She taught at Friendly House during the 1940s. She was a member of the church for about 80 years. She was a past officer in the Oregon Music Teachers Association. In 1932, she married Hans Bestel; he died in 1973.
Survivors include her daughter, Emily G. Cannon; son, Armin H.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Private interment will be in River View Cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to her church. Arrangements are by Omega Funeral & Cremation Service.
