Rilla Irving, daughter of Clint and Della Irving, was born in Warren County, Iowa, on January 4, 1906 and departed this life at Chariton, Iowa, on April 26, 1965 at the age of 59 years, three months and 22 days.
Her parents moved to Marion County when she was 12 years old and the remainder of her life was spent in Marion and Lucas counties.
In young womanhood she accepted Christ as her Saviour, uniting with the Belinda Christian church, later transferring her membership to the Christian church at Chariton. Despite many years of declining health, her faith was the source of her strength.
On October 20, 1922, she was united in marriage to Jud Askren. To this union four children were born.
Survivors are her husband Jud, two daughters, Mrs. Homer (Wilma) Ballard, Chariton; Mrs. Harold (Wanda) Russell, Burlington; two sons, Lyle of Comanche; Walden of Caldwell, Idaho. Also two sisters, Mrs. Charlton (Leota) Robinson, Mrs. Raymond (Mary) Medearis of Thatcher, Ariz. Three brothers, Walter and Troy of Chariton and Varel of Columbia. Four granddaughters, nine grandsons and two great-granddaughters. Two aunts, one uncle and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Mrs. Alfred (Ocean) Medearis and Mrs. James (Margaret) Troyer and a grandson, Neil Alvin Askren.
Services were conducted by the Rev. Eldon Jandebeur from the Beardsley-Fielding Funeral Home at 2 p.m., April 29, 1965. Burial was in the Chariton cemetery.
