FAIRFAX, Okla. -- Bobby G. Irons, 61, formerly of Abilene, died Feb. 21 in a Stillwater, Okla. hospital.
Services were held Tuesday in First Christian Church with the Rev. George Weston officiating. Burial was in Fairfax Cemetery, directed by Hunsaker-Wooten Funeral Home.
Mr. Irons was born near Ralston, Okla., and graduated from high school in Ralston in 1954. He started working as an insurance salesman in 1955 and moved in the late 1950s to Abilene, where he was employed as a salesman by Boggs-Daniel Office Machines. He married Carol Evonne Reed in 1959 in Kiowa, Kan., and worked for Consumer's Butane Service in Kiowa. He moved to Fairfax, Okla. nearly 38 years ago and was a bookkeeper for Pease Construction Co., Paul Martin Co. and Tip Asher. He was Fairfax city clerk from 1965-75 and then became director of the Osage County Nutrition Program. He was a part-owner of D&P Tank Co. and also owned and operated the Texaco Mini Mart from 1986 until retiring due to ill health in 1997. He was a past president of the Fairfax Chamber of Commerce, charter member of the Fairfax Jaycees and was a sponsor of Fairfax Teen Democrats. He was a member of First Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Fairfax; two sons, Brad J. Irons of Ponca City, Okla., and Nick Irons of Jackson, Miss.; two brothers, Roy D. Irons of Boise, Idaho, and Belford Irons of Hominy, Okla.; three sisters, Beulah Beavers of Mill Valley, Calif., Geraldine Martin of Aspermont and Lavern Turner of Abilene; seven grandchildren; and one aunt.
